Health warning

In advertisements published in print media, the health warning must be included so as to be clearly legible and visible:

  • Exclusively horizontally
  • In bold type, in a color that contrasts with the background of the message, with no letter less than 1/100th of the total height/width of the advertisement. However, the size and typeface may be adjusted for legibility reasons related to the dimensions of the medium.
  • Offset from the edges of the advertisement by at least twice the height of the letters. However, this offset may be reduced for legibility reasons related to the dimensions of the medium.
  • And expressed using the wording “Alcohol abuse is dangerous to your health; drink in moderation.” However, the wording may be shortened to the first part of the sentence for reasons related to the dimensions of the medium.
  • In advertisements broadcast over the radio, the health warning is expressed using the wording “For your health, beware of alcohol abuse.”

Advertising media

Advertisers strictly comply with the regulations in force concerning media authorized for advertising.

However, they voluntarily refrain from exercising their right to advertise via billboards at French sporting venues during sporting events.

Beyond strict compliance with the law of 21 July 2009, commercial communications on online communication services comply with all the recommendations above (chapters 1 to 3). Access to brand websites is subject to users entering their age or date of birth, and access is blocked if the information entered indicates an age under 18 years.

Delivery vehicles bear the producer's name, accompanied, clearly and legibly, by the word “company” or any other word, abbreviation, or acronym identifying the legal nature of the business. The producer's name may be accompanied or replaced by the brand name of an alcoholic beverage; in that case, the health warning defined in the “Health warning” section must be included.
