VEDRENNE IS 100 YEARS OLD!

Discover its story since 1923...

1923

Shortly after the First World War, Joseph VEDRENNE, a native of Corrèze and a trained engineer, installed stills in several wine-growing regions. His many trips to Burgundy led him to establish VEDRENNE Père et Fils in Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1923. At the time, Marc de Bourgogne was widely consumed in bars, particularly in Paris.

1930

From the 30s onward, VEDRENNE pioneered fruit maceration, developing specialized equipment to preserve all the fruits' flavor qualities. The company then specialized in fruit extraction, offering its premium blackcurrant liqueur, “Supercassis,” as well as many flavors of fruit liqueurs and syrups.

1945

During the 30 Glorious Years, Joseph's two sons, Robert and Jean VEDRENNE, expanded the distillery and export markets, particularly in Italy. At the time, they mainly exported Marc and Fine de Bourgogne.

1950

Starting in the 1950s, Robert VEDRENNE's sons, Marcel, Joël, and François, expanded the range of liqueurs and fruit liqueurs with new flavors. Maceration and distillation take place in Nuits-Saint-Georges.

VEDRENNE liqueurs then reached new international markets thanks to their wide variety of flavors.

1974

The company, previously located on Rue des Blés in Nuits-Saint-Georges, moved to Passage Montgolfier, where it remains today. Over the years, the premises have expanded and adapted to the company's growth and the needs of its growing team.

1987

Bordeaux-based liqueur maker Marie Brizard took the opportunity to acquire the company in 1987 and entrusted VEDRENNE with making its creams and liqueurs.

1997

Ten years later, the RENAUD-COINTREAU family, liqueur makers through Verveine du Velay, acquired VEDRENNE and merged PAGÈS and VEDRENNE.

2001

In 2001, VEDRENNE opened a museum in Nuits-Saint-Georges dedicated entirely to the fruit that helped make it famous: blackcurrants.

A visit to the Cassissium (a Remarkable Taste Site) is a true tribute to blackcurrants: their history, cultivation, and processing, as well as a guided tour of the VEDRENNE production facility and a tasting.

2006

In spring 2006, VEDRENNE acquired DOLFI. Its Wild Strawberry Liqueur, a must-have for bartenders, further strengthened VEDRENNE's leading position in the on-trade.

In summer 2006, PAGÈS joined forces with SALERS, famous for its authentic gentian and firmly established in Auvergne and in Parisian cafés and restaurants.

2017

In 2017, the company was recognized as a Living Heritage Company.

The Living Heritage Company label is an official French designation created in 2005 and awarded under the authority of the Ministry of the Economy and Finance to recognize French companies with outstanding artisanal and industrial expertise.

2019

In 2019, VEDRENNE's identity took shape with the creation of its new logo, showcasing its commitment to local products, including through the presence of the French flag.

This new visual identity launched alongside the new packaging, 100% locally made and environmentally friendly, for the VEDRENNE syrup range. The syrup recipes were also reworked to be more natural, less sweet, and free from artificial colors.

2022

In 2022, VEDRENNE revamped its entire professional and retail range, with illustrations highlighting the fruit and flavor of its products.

By modernizing its professional range, VEDRENNE reaffirmed its ambition to grow in bars and its desire to continue inspiring mixology professionals.

September 2022

In September 2022, VEDRENNE earned the PME+ label and joined 200 certified companies.

The PME+ certification recognizes the company's policies and commitments to French-made products, lasting relationships with farmers, choosing local suppliers to reduce transportation and support the local economy, developing natural formulas, and eco-designing products.

2023

VEDRENNE celebrates its 100th anniversary with a limited edition of its iconic liqueur, SUPERCASSIS.

Available throughout 2023, this packaging features randomly colored blackcurrant berries on each label, offering endless variations. For this edition, VEDRENNE drew inspiration from a label in its archives dating from the 1950s.
